Baklava, or Basta, as it is called in Sudan
Reem cooked this dish when she entertained Diala.
How to make:
Preheat the oven to 180c.
Finely grind the pistachios
Put a cup of sugar in a saucepan with half a cup of water and stir on medium heat to prepare the syrup.
Line a baking tray with grease-proof paper.
Brush a layer of filo pastry with sunflower oil
Put a a tea spoonful of pistachio or any finely ground nuts at the top middle of the filo sheet.
Fold the sides of the pastry sheet and roll down from the top into a parcel.
Place on the baking tray
Cook for 10 – 15 mins .
When cooked, dip each parcel in the hot syrup sauce pan, or alternatively, place the cooked parcels in a dip dish, and pour the syrup over them and leave for few minutes to absorb the syrup .
Sprinkle some pistachio powder on top before serving.
